The newly-launched Northern Cape Construction Company (NCCC) is expected to accelerate the roll-out plan of the government’s infrastructure projects.
According to the statement issued by the Northern Cape Provincial Government, the NCCC is aimed at dealing with issues of inequality, poverty, and unemployment within the province. Premier Zamani Saul announced this state-owned company during his State of the Province Address (SOPA) in 2019.
Saul stated that a total of 50 learners will be part of the first phase of the project. He said that the NCCC will be an incubator for skills development, especially amongst young people and small businesses.

Saul further added that learners will go through a month-long training programme, which includes pothole repairing, amongst others.

Earlier this year, Saul had welcomed the R7 billion investment made by Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) into the Gamberg Phase 2 project as part of the provincial government’s efforts in dealing with poverty and the high unemployment rate. According to the spokesperson for the Northern Cape Premier, Bronwyn Thomas-Abrams, between 2000 and 2500 jobs will be created during the construction phase and between 800 and 1000 permanent jobs will be created upon the completion of the project.
