In a continued push for a safer Northern Cape, police are continuing with a proactive, multi-pronged approach to law enforcement under the banner of Operation Vala Umgodi.

The initiative aims to move beyond conventional policing by integrating various government departments and community organisations to form a unified front against crime.

Deputy provincial commissioner for policing Maj. Gen. Johnny Besnaar has emphasised that the objective is to highlight the impact of disruptive actions.

The operation’s success is underscored by its intelligence-led approach, which has already delivered tangible results. Precision raids on suspected drug dens have resulted in key arrests and the seizure of substantial quantities of illicit substances.

“A 52-year-old male suspect was arrested for dealing in drugs following the confiscation of a large quantity of suspected Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of over R7,000 and an undisclosed amount of cash,” said Sgt. Merapelo Pilane.

In addition, acting on a tip-off regarding unauthorised labour, authorities arrested 21 individuals, aged between 18 and 46, for contravening immigration laws at construction sites in New Park and Belgravia, Kimberley.

“The operation was supported by various provincial components, including the Police Emergency Service, Tactical Response Team, Kimberley, Galeshewe, Kagisho and Roodepan police stations, as well as the Sol Plaatje Municipality’s traffic department and the department of home affairs,” said Pilane.

While investigations are ongoing, all detained suspects will appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court.

As the operation continues, the police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through the MySAPS App or the Crime Stop number.
