Kimberley - Northern Cape acting premier and education MEC, Grizelda Cjiekella says she will not resign over the crisis in education in the province.
Scores of learners have been prevented to go to school over the past five months due to service delivery protests.
Cjiekella says society should take responsibility for the crisis in areas such as the John Taolo Gaetsewe district. Some 11 400 matric learners will sit for their exams come 22 October.
Cjiekella says security measures will be improved at the 134 exam centres across the province to ensure the exams are incident free.
Cjiekella says a political solution to the Olifantshoek crisis is being sought. Residents have prevented learners from attending school and are demanding the removal of executive mayor, Maria Dinisa, whom they accuse of corruption.
