The 22-year-old Kyle Stols sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Police earlier said a firearm was found on top of his body which was found outside one of the guesthouses on the farm Hatari Big Game Safaris. Police spokesperson, Thandi Mbambo, says post-mortem results, however, revealed Stols also sustained a second gunshot wound in the head above his right ear. She says according to information a security alarm went off in the early hours of Sunday.

It is alleged Stols went to investigate. The owner of the farm alerted police when he received an SMS from the security company indicating an alarm went off. Stols apparently also sent an emergency cell phone message to a local rural safety group. Mbambo says the motive for the shooting is unknown and police are still in the process of establishing what exactly transpired and how many people were involved.

Funeral arrangements have been posted on Stols’ Facebook page. His funeral service is this coming Friday at the Verkeerdevlei Dutch Reformed Church outside Bloemfontein at 11:00.
