Expert: Expect more power cuts─── 09:31 Thu, 05 Jan 2023

This year, South Africans may anticipate even more intermittent power outages.
According to energy expert Roger Lilley, if Parliament does not take action, the nation will continue to be without power.
We are already experiencing more frequent rolling power outages, with Stage 3 already in effect, just one week into the new year.
This, according to Lilley, is a sign that the entire network is out of control.
"I think we're going to see more load-shedding. 2022 was the worst on record, almost five times worse than 2021. In 2023, we've just opened the door to the New Year and already we're at Stage 3, sort of halfway into the depth of load-shedding. We really have a situation that shows the whole network is out of control now," Lilly said.
Due to the breakdown of two generating units and the delay in returning to service three generating units from planned maintenance, Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented today at 16:00 until further notice. Eskom will issue another update as soon as it becomes necessary.

Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Public Enterprises, is not to blame, according to Lilley, for the ongoing electricity crisis.
Gordhan, according to him, lacks the power to supply more electricity.
"That is the minister of energy's responsibility, that's Mr Gwede Mantashe. We need someone in that position who understands what South Africa needs now and in the next 20 years from an energy perspective," Lilley said.
