Suspected drug dealer opens fire on police at Ficksburg border post | News Article

Ficksburg - Ficksburg police are looking for information on an alleged drug dealer who was involved in a high speed chase and shoot-out with police after he sped through the Lesotho border post on Sunday.

Free State police spokesperson, Phumelelo Dlhamini, says the man, driving a Toyota Quantum, failed to stop for routine checks and searches at the Ficksburg port of entry.

He was travelling from Lesotho to South Africa.

Dlhamini says a high speed chase ensued in which the suspect opened fire on police.

He allegedly drove through the gates of a nearby farm and through the Zone 8 location in Ficksburg.

Dlhamini says, at one stage, the man sped towards a police vehicle and bumped into it to evade capture.

He later abandoned the vehicle near the Caledon River, which he crossed to get back into Lesotho.

The police later discovered 64 bags of dagga with a street value of over a million Rand.
