One thing leads to another
Heaven and Earth - Bronwyn Findlay
Bronwyn's work is informed by spaces that she has lived in and been to, things she collects, people she collaborates with, manipulating paint and colour in response to her subject matter. She likes to think that ‘every picture tells a story’, but each painting exists as its world. She tries to find beauty in things that seem insignificant, the ordinary. This decorative manipulation of paint may also be seen in more recent paintings of South African flora and fauna – while these works are hardly botanical, She hopes they capture a different reality.

What remains through time, slowness and stillness?
Sonja Rademeyer, Earth Time - Mymalaika Photography
As a visual and performing artist, Sonya Rademeyer is interested in exploring notions of deep empathy, which require deep listening and connecting her to entanglement, fragility, and complexities. She grapples with the relationship between empathy and whiteness, which is viewed from a post-colonial perspective, and she looks for ways to open discussions around forgiveness, social cohesion, and transformation. She has a very collaborative approach, and collaborators for this exhibition include Mary Sebabatso Mofama and Dr Anita Venter, co-founders of Roodewal Meraka. The long-term intention for the Meraka project is to create a world-class regenerative knowledge exchange hub (Meraka) where various living heritage activities are taught and performed. Other collaborators include Lenosa Mahapang, the Creative Research Lab (TUT) for live performances and Jemima Kola.

Soliloquy: the untold story of Sleeping Beauty’s dreams
Lisa Ledwick
This body of work takes the form of a revision of the fairy tale “Sleeping Beauty” by Charles Perrault (1634) and, as such, is imbued with universal archetypes that speak to the collective unconscious of humanity. These archetypes and symbolic imagery are used as a springboard in her work to communicate a personal story that takes form visually. Like fairy tales, the artworks are meant to act as a catalyst to engage with the viewer and ‘create a space’ for internal questioning and evaluation. As such, this work offers the viewer an opportunity for timeless psychological reflection.
