The Supermix Music News | News Article

Here are some of the news making headlines in the world of music.

Foo Fighters Post Instrumental Snippet of New Song

The unnamed track was posted to the group’s socials and though it is only 12 seconds of instrumental rocking, it features the Foos’ classic mix of thundering drums and stadium-ready, air-punching guitar energy. The surprise drop didn’t provide any additional information about the song or where it will end up, but it was accompanied by the question, “are you thinking what I’m thinking?”

While the world has no idea what the Foos are thinking at the moment, fellow rocker Jack Black had a quick response, “I think so.”

Apart from announcing 25 U.S. and European festival and headliner dates for this summer and fall, the band has kept a tight lid on their plans to solider on without Hawkins. To date they have not announced who will replace the energetic, beloved timekeeper whose death at 50 while on tour in South America devastated the group and their fans.

It was unclear at press time who plays drums on the track, what it is called or when it will be released; a spokesperson for the group had not returned a request for additional details at press time. More on this story can be found here.

Running up the numbers to emerge as the most streamed song in South Africa across all major streaming platforms in 2023 was clearly not enough. K.O, Young Stunna and Blxckie's megahit 'SETE', is on pace to become of the long-running number ones on the Channel O Top 30!

The single is taken from K.O's 4th studio album SR3. The 14-track project boasts a slew of high-powered collaborations, including Msaki, Sarkodie, Zuma and Pabi Cooper.

The rise of Aymos takes a big boost as his single 'Fatela' with Ami Faku, lands at #3. AKA and Nasty C's 'Lemons (Lemonade)' at #4. The song has previously spent weeks at #1. It's taken from the late rapper's 2023 studio album, MASS COUNTRY.

Coachella partners with gaming universe Fornite

The iconic festival and gaming behemoth have joined forces to launch Coachella Island, a new virtual destination for creator-driven music and art experiences. The two are twisting the knife into last year's groundbreaking collaboration, which introduced Coachella-themed skins and in-game music to Fortnite players.

Coachella Island is essentially a digital doppelgänger of its IRL namesake. According to a press release shared with EDM.com, fans in the "music-reactive" universe can explore desert mountains, polo fields, palm trees and virtual replicas of the festival's hallmarks, like its fabled ferris wheel.

This is not the first time the duo has been speaking highly of their forthcoming project. During an interview with Ms Cosmo on PopCast Podcast at CottonFest the duo made it clear that they have collaborated with some big-name SA rappers on their body of work.

“The album is done, it is coming out, we do have Cassper Nyovest on the album, we do have Nadia Nakai on the album, we do have Maglera Doe Boy on the album, and we do have my homeboy all the way from Soweto Wanda Flows on the album, we got Makwa on the album too,” said Stino Le Thwenny.

RSA band Monark returns with a brand new single, "Going Home"

When COVID hit, the band all had families to take care of and, with no means of income from music, they chose to get past the pandemic first. After slowly coming out of the grips of COVID, they felt inspired to put pen to paper for some new songs and realised they still had so much more to give to their fans and the local music scene.

The idea for 'GOING HOME' already surfaced before COVID. The core of the song was finished during the lockdown, with the inspiration being the universal experience and feeling of loneliness and intense longing for a place where everyone can come together, forget about their circumstances and just be themselves.

“GOING HOME is about the realisation that we all need a place to call home, regardless of the fact that it means something different and can be a different place for everyone. Deep in the song, there is also the concept that even in the throes of loneliness, there is a collective spirit or consciousness that will always be there and why we will never, and can never, be truly alone,” says Deon De Klerk.

Recorded and produced by legendary producer and MONARK band member, Ewald Jansen van Rensburg at his POPKULT studios in Potchefstroom, the single starts off softly while drawing the listener into what later progresses into an identifiable, dance number filled with nostalgic, signature MONARK musical references combined with the latest in production techniques.

Fans can look forward to more brand-new singles from MONARK this year. Read more on this story here.
