Bloemfontein - All eyes will be on Bloemfontein today (Thursday) as top government leaders this morning unveil the newly renamed Bram Fischer International Airport, and later the statue of former president Nelson Mandela.
President Jacob Zuma, the minister of transport, Ben Martins, Free State premier Ace Magashule and Mangaung's executive mayor, Thabo Manyoni, will unveil the Bram Fischer International Airport, formerly Bloemfontein Airport, at 08:00 this morning.
The airport was officially renamed in November this year.
Later in the day, the 8-metre statue of Madiba, which was donated by local businessman Freddie Kenney, will be unveiled on Naval Hill. This is the largest of all statues of the former statesmen to be erected anywhere in the world, including those in London's Parliament Square and Sandton Square in Johannesburg.
The statue unveiling will be followed by a lighting show and a fireworks display later in the evening.
