Johannesburg - The rollercoaster ride in the poultry industry over this last year has set the stage for a riveting 110th Avi Africa Conference and Exhibition, which takes place in Johannesburg next week.

According to the SA Poultry Association, Sapa, the industry is the biggest agricultural roleplayer in Rand value and accounts for more than 130 000 jobs. Over the last year, poultry stakeholders have been faced with, among others, Agoa and the re-entry of US imports, proposed duties on EU imports, new brining regulations and the impact of the drought on poultry prices.

These and other issues will be up for debate during the event running from June 21 to 23 under the theme “Transformation… our journey continues”.

Some of the key speakers include political commentator Justice Malala, agricultural economist Ernst Janovsky and Michael Czarick of the Universtiy of Georgia in the USA, who is considered an authority on poultry science.

Also on the agenda are the AGMs of the Egg Organisation, the poultry group of the SA Veterinary Association, the Broiler Organisation and Sapa. For further information visit sapoultry.co.za.
