Lanties Reunion book showcases decades of schoolboy antics─── SABRINA DEAN 15:32 Mon, 26 Sep 2016
Bloemfontein - The antics and escapades of learners who attended the Hoër Landbouskool Tweespruit (Lanties) over a timespan of about 65 years have now been immortalised in a coffee table book launched in Bloemfontein at the weekend.
Author Gerhard van der Merwe, who matriculated from the school in 1985, says the book showcases more than 2 000 photos and memorabilia.
He says in creating the book, he realised again what a privilege it was to attend an agricultural school. He says what's amazing is how much the children had in common through all the years.
“Something really caught my attention – and you may find it funny. It was (a photo of) the boys who were playing in the water trough at the horse stables in 1952, without shirts in their PT shorts… If you look at them and you take the photo next to it of the boys playing in the water trough at the horse stables in 1991 – they look the same.
“Although we are a lifetime apart, a lifetime - we were all the same age at one point.”
