Bloem Show is only one of two remaining shows in the country that presents a platform for commercial and agricultural industries.

Besides being a major contributor to Bloemfontein’s economy, Bloem Show is also the proud host of the largest open-air Saddle Horse Championship in the world.

Just under 900 saddle horses are participating in this championship.

The Saddle Horse Championships kicked off on Monday 25 April. Along with that, Bloem Show is also the host of the National and World Dorper Championships where about 1 200 sheep participate. Bloem Show is also hosting the South African national sheep shearing championship.

Prinsloo explains that Bloem Show’s aim is to remain a platform for the different industries and to continually provide them with a platform to showcase their animals.

Prinsloo told OFM News on the second day of the show that it's important to understand the impact the show has on the economy of the city and the province. She says the show, which is one of only two remaining shows in the country, can benefit small and big businesses.

"If you look at the hospitality industry and all of the visitors from outside South Africa that is visiting Bloemfontein and Mangaung over the two weeks of the show... that in itself is obviously a big injection towards the economy and the trade in Mangaung," she adds.

Prinsloo says the Bloem Show has the value of creating jobs for the locals, even if it's for temporary workers.
