Flanker Thabo Ndimande is looking forward to the next chapter in his rugby career, which will take him to England.

Ndimande is one of five players set to leave the Suzuki Griquas, and he will continue his journey with the Worcester Warriors.

He has spent his entire professional career with the Peacock Blues, having joined them straight out of the Varsity Cup, where he represented the Shimlas. The former Griquas Forward of the Year told OFM Sport that he’s excited about what lies ahead with the English club, but he will always remain a Griqua at heart and is grateful for the platform the Kimberley-based side gave him to showcase his talent.

“Firstly, the Griquas will always be home to me and will forever hold a special place in my heart,” said the dynamic loose forward.

“There were so many good memories. We won big games, both home and away, and even picked up some trophies. This has been a special group, I have to say.

“Speaking of special moments, I think my biggest one, besides signing for the Griquas, was my debut. We played against the Lions, who were my former team at junior level. I made my debut against them and started in the number six jersey.

“I was named MVP in that match, which we won. That was a truly special moment for me, and at home, in front of our fans. I remember after the game, I actually cried, tears of joy, of course, just thinking, ‘This is the first of many.’”

Ndimande said being named Forward Player of the Year was a turning point in his career.

“That was a life-changing moment. I had only played for half a season, so to be recognised like that really opened doors for me. It made me believe in myself even more that I can do this.”

While Ndimande knows that playing in England will bring a new set of challenges, he’s confident in the direction the club is heading, having spoken to head coach Matt Everard.

“Signing with the Warriors is a big step up for me. It’s a club with a strong history in the Premiership,” he added.

“I spoke to Coach Matt and he shared his vision for the team. I immediately bought into it. I told him how excited I am to join and how I plan to give my absolute best, to win more trophies, and help get the team back into the Premiership.

“For me, signing with them was a no-brainer. It’s a big club with a lot to achieve and big shoes to fill. I believe in Coach Matt’s plan, and I think he’s signing the right players to get the job done.

“I’m really excited for the new challenge, and honestly, I can’t wait, I think about it every day.”

The other Griquas players departing are Dylan Sjöblom (Lions), Junior Banda (Pumas), Marcqiewn Titus (Boland Cavalier), and Sako Makata (Loan spell from Western Province/Stormers).
