Bloem Celtic move to 5th on the log | News Article
Bloemfontein Celtic collected maximum points after beating Supersport United 2-1 in an Premiership clash at Free State Stadium on Wednesday night.

The hard-fought win was Celtic's third in a row following victories over Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundonws.

Phunya Sele Sele scored in each half via roving midfielders Joel Mogorosi and Ruzaigh Gamaldien.

Seasoned Supersport striker Sibusiso Zuma reduced the deficit when he netted late in the game, beating Celtic goalminder Patrick Tignyemb with a powerful grass-cutter, and capitalising on a defensive blunder.

The win improved Celtic's chances of finishing in the top half of the table when the season ends later this month.

Celtic striker Lennox Bacela was on target in the seventh minute but SuperSport keeper Ronwen Williams was on hand to thwart the danger for a corner kick.

Phunya Selesele soaked up the pressure as they went in search of the elusive goal, and Mogorosi broke the deadlock in the 25th minute, tapping in after the United defence failed to clear a brilliant free-kick taken by Lyle Lakay.

SuperSport pushed forward early in the second half, searching for an equaliser, but failed to trouble the hosts.

The hosts managed to regain control and their persistence paid off when Gamaldien stretched the lead in the 57th minute, scoring directly from a free-kick outside the box.

Both sides continued to attack and Celtic almost found their third goal but Gamaldien's powerful attempt was punched away by Williams in the 76th minute.

SuperSport raised their game, pumping balls into the area, and they were finally rewarded for their efforts when veteran Zuma fired a low consolation strike past Tignyemb with three minutes left.
