Celtic sign Mongala | News Article

Absa Premiership club Bloemfontein Celtic have acquired the services of Botswana international winger Phenyo Mongala from Orlando Pirates on a one-year loan deal.

The left-winger follows in the footsteps of speedy Pirates winger Tlou Segolela and striker Siphelele Mthembu, who have both had successful stints at Celtic.

Mongala, the Botswana international, will look to make an immediate and lasting impact, after joining the club for a year-long loan.

Mongala was a bit-part player in Pirates’ treble-winning campaign but has the winning mentality needed to succeed and he is desperate for game time to fulfill the promise he has shown. The former Tuks winger is highly-rated and will add depth and quality down the Celtic flanks.

Mongala was on hand to watch his new team sail to the top of the log after two games, with last night’s emphatic 2-0 win over Black Leopards taking siwelele to the summit. It may be early days but maximum points from two outings will stand the team in good stead.

I am over the moon to be part of this season’s Celtic set-up,” an excited Mongala told the club’s official website.

I believe the club is on an upward path and I am looking very much forward to being part of this team … I am also looking forward to playing under head coach Clinton Larsen as I was very impressed with the way his team played last season," he added.

I feel Celtic is a massive club and I am looking forward to turning out in front of what I believe is an incredible group of supporters."

Mongala follows two Pirates players to play for Celtic in the past few seasons with both Segolela and Mthembu playing massive roles in the club’s resurgence. Both impressed so much they were recalled back to Pirates following their successful loan spells and if Mongala can equal or surpass their achievements it will mean the club can only benefit tremendously.

"I am excited at playing more regularly if I can impress the coach as I feel my best football is ahead of me. I know it will be tough to challenge for a first team spot right away but I am dedicated and will put in my best at training to achieve my goals," he said.

"I have felt very much a part of the Siwelele family already and I feel comfortable here in Bloemfontein, so this all bodes well for a fantastic season." - SuperSport
