Bloemfonteion - Former Bafana Bafana captain and long-time coach of Free State Stars Steve Komphela has been given the axe by the Qwaqwa-based club. The news was confirmed by the clubs general manager Lebohang Maketa.
Komphela was widely considered one of the shrewdest and most respected coaches in the PSL and became synonymous with Stars after transforming them into a force to be reckoned with during four largely successful years with the Free State club.
Kompela’s dismissal follows after the sides 2-0 loss to the PSL Champions, Kaizer Chiefs at the Charles Moraledi Stadium on Saturday.
This season Stars, however, have failed to live up to expectations during the current season, winning only three of their 11 PSL games and losing five of them.
