Celtic players guaranteed of contracts─── MORGAN PIEK 09:44 Tue, 17 Aug 2021

It’s is D-Day for the Free State’s only Premier Soccer League club, Bloemfontein Celtic. The team which is one of the best supported and most vocal clubs in South Africa, will cease to exist on Tuesday, one the PSL ratifies the club’s sale.
The PSL will be hosting a press conference on Tuesday which will address various issues, including the sale of club.
Celtic’s financial woes over the past number of years have been well documented there have been numerous attempts to sell the club, especially to Bloemfontein-based business people. Due to many reasons each time there was an attempt to sell the club in the past, the deal fell through at the eleventh hour.
It has been reported that the Phunya Sele Sele’s PSL status was sold to the business woman and owner of Royal Am, Shauwn Mkhize, for R50 million.
She recently sold Royal Am’s First Division status to Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM).
This will leave Celtic without a league to play in just days before the season starts, and it effectively brings the end to Celtic after 52 years.
The PSL are set to ratify the sale of the club on Tuesday.
Tholaganyo Gaoshubelwe, the President of the South African Football Players Union (SAFPU), told KickOff that they players are guaranteed contracts at their “new” club.
“You would recall that previously you could purchase a club's status with no regard for the players.
“Discussions were held since then to ensure that no player is left in limbo when a buyer or investor purchases a team. It's even stated now in the PSL handbook.
“When a club is sold or bought, players' contracts are now guaranteed, which we are happy about."
“Matters that we can deal with at a later stage would be once a particular club is bought, and they relocate.
“Let's say Celtic were to relocate to Durban, what then happens when they get to Durban, and they are told they are not wanted?
“They do have recourse because we will then take the matter to the Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) based on unfair dismissal or breach of contract.
“But most importantly is that their contracts remain intact, also those players that were at Royal AM if they still have a contract.
“No player must be left in limbo just because their parent club has been bought.”
It is believed that the Celtic CEO, Max Tshabalala, informed their players of the club sale on Monday, and they have been instructed to relocate to Durban immediately in order to prepare for the league which will kick-off this weekend.
At this stage, while the players have their futures secured, it remains to be seen what will have to the technical staff headed by the coach and former club captain, John Maduka.
