What happened in Bloemfontein? Here's what we know─── MJ LOURENS 21:05 Wed, 23 Sep 2015

All hell broke loose in parts of Bloemfontein with alleged gang violence on the tip of almost everyone's tongues.
1. Violence erupted in Bloemfontein today. Alleged gang violence spread to Heidedal where schools were closed and learners sent home.
2. A principal told OFM News that the violence started in Phase 3 and 6.
3. One person was killed and another is in a very critical condition in hospital.
4. Police have arrested 14 people for public violence. They're investigating a case of murder and malicious damage to property and attempted murder, for the man who is still in hospital
5. Schools were being targeted by the alleged gang members where they take cell phones from children, and some alleged that clothes were also under the robbed items.
6. Social media messages circulated with rumours that 8 children were killed and that the gangs were on their way to ALL Bloemfontein schools. Police dismissed this, but most schools' learners were sent home as a safety precaution.
7. OFM News has received video footage of a dead man lying in a gravel street - stoned to death by the looks of the photograph. Another picture of a dead man was sent to us, but we cannot confirm at this stage if it is the same person.
8. This is a picture of the man currently in a critical condition in hospital.
9. After the chaos erupted in Heidedal this morning, the violent activity flared up in Rocklands where a mall shut its doors and various shops in the area did too. Schools were either on lockdown this morning or learners sent home.
10. Police confirmed this afternoon that the situation was under control, but tense. They appealed to the community to remain calm and call police in connection with information that may help their investigation.
11. A 23-year-old Kovsie student who went to a recording studio in Rocklands, says children were running away from their respective schools just to get away from possible danger. He said: "There were children everywhere, running to get away from school".
12. An OFM News staff member has confirmed that there is a lot of activity in Phelindaba. This is close to the Seisa Ramabodu stadium.
13. This video was supplied by a reliable source. It seems the alleged gangs are moving from one area to another, and causing chaos in most parts of Mangaung and Heidedal. Here's a video of what happened, and what the streets looked like in these parts:
